Search for "peanut butter latte" and you'll mostly find two things: syrup recipes, and us.
A syrup peanut butter latte is a regular latte with peanut-flavored sugar syrup — the flavor of a peanut painted onto milk. A real peanut butter latte, the kind we've served since 2020, contains actual peanut butter: roasted peanuts, emulsified into espresso before the milk ever arrives. The difference is the difference between lemon candy and a lemon.
What's in ours
Le Buddy — our signature and the original — is four ingredients: organic peanut butter (hi-oleic peanuts and a pinch of fleur de sel, ground in our Brussels atelier), a double espresso, steamed oat mylk, and raw cacao. No syrup, no refined sugar, no powder. The sweetness is the peanut's own.
Why real nut butter changes the drink
Fat carries flavor; water dilutes it. Syrups are water and sugar. Nut butter is roasted fat and protein, which means it does three things a syrup can't: it gives the drink genuine body (closer to a milkshake's texture at a latte's weight), it browns the flavor the way roasting browns the nut, and it keeps the drink savory enough that the espresso still matters. A syrup latte gets sweeter as it cools. Ours gets rounder.
The peanut allergy question
We're a nut house — it's in the name. Everything we serve and sell is made in facilities that handle peanuts and tree nuts, and our coffee bars blend nut butters all day. If you have a severe nut allergy, our drinks aren't for you, and we'd rather say that plainly than in small print.
Try it, or make it
The original is poured daily at 340 Bowery in NoHo, New York — weekdays from 7 AM, weekends from 8 — and at our bars in Brussels and Paris. Or make it at home: the same peanut butter and espresso beans we use are in the shop, and one jar is good for about fifteen drinks.
FAQ
How much caffeine is in a peanut butter latte? Ours is built on a double espresso — roughly 130mg, the same as any flat white.
Is a peanut butter latte sweet? Naturally, mildly. Peanuts carry their own sweetness; we add no sugar. Ask for maple if you want it sweeter.
Hot or iced? Both. Iced, the peanut butter is emulsified into hot espresso first, then poured over ice and oat mylk — it never sinks.
Is it vegan? Yes, as served: oat mylk and single-ingredient nut butter.
