OUR STORY

Founded in January 2020, BUDDY BUDDY is the world’s first nut butter coffee bar. With locations in Paris and Brussels, our cafés bring together two passions: organic nut butters and specialty coffee. We serve drinks and pastries made with our handmade nut butters, showing just how versatile they can be—always paired with carefully sourced coffee beans, roasted in-house.

Our nut butters are crafted in ultra-small batches of just 30 jars at our Brussels atelier, using only organic ingredients and a fully in-house process—we roast, grind, and jar everything ourselves. In early 2025, we began roasting our own beans in Paris, deepening our commitment to quality, transparency, and craft. Every step—from nut to cup—is done with intention and never outsourced.

As a certified B Corp, sustainability guides how we source, produce, and serve. Today, our nut butters are available in over 500 retail locations across 10 countries—including Harrods in London and Erewhon in the U.S.—and our global community continues to grow.

More than cafés, BUDDY BUDDY is an experience. One that celebrates bold flavors, thoughtful craft, and everything we love about nut butters and specialty coffee.

OUR CAFÉS

Our cafés are more than just a place to grab a coffee. They are destinations for anyone who loves high-quality, organic nut butters. We serve specialty coffee along with a range of creative nut butter-based signature drinks and pastries. Each signature menu item is crafted with BUDDY BUDDY’s nut butters, made in our atelier in Brussels with organic ingredients.

In January 2020, we proudly opened the first nut butter café in Europe, just a few minutes’ walk from the Apple Store in Brussels. In March 2023, we opened our second nut butter café in Paris—where we also began roasting our own specialty coffee beans.

We are open from Monday to Sunday, 364 days per year, only closed on Christmas Day.
Our cafés showcase the versatility of our ultra-small batch nut butters, proving that the same product you can buy at Erewhon or Harrods tastes even better when crafted into signature drinks by our team.

OUR HUMBLE BEGINNINGS

BUDDY BUDDY began in the simplest way: two life partners in a small Brussels apartment, roasting nuts in their kitchen and blending nut butters by hand. Matt (from New Zealand) and Julien (from France) were driven by a shared love of healthy food, coffee culture, and the joy of creating nut butters together.

Back then, it was just a hobby — making ultra-creamy nut butters with organic ingredients for themselves and their friends. But the more they shared, the more people asked for jars. Encouraged by the response, they decided to build something real — a place where craft and community could meet.

In 2020, they opened the first BUDDY BUDDY café in Brussels: a space that combined small-batch nut butter production with specialty coffee. It was the first concept of its kind. A second café followed in Paris in 2023, and by 2025 they began roasting their own coffee in-house — continuing to refine both crafts under one roof.

BUDDY BUDDY remains fully independent, fully self-funded, and true to its roots: no shortcuts, no outside investors, and everything still made by hand in their own atelier.

At its heart, BUDDY BUDDY is still about that same feeling — the pleasure of making something good, sharing it with others, and building spaces that feel personal, thoughtful, and full of care.

OUR ATELIER

At BUDDY BUDDY, we take pride in crafting nut butters entirely in-house. Our ultra-small batch process begins at our atelier in Brussels, where we source only the best quality organic nuts from trusted farmers.

Our nut sources include French hazelnuts and almonds, in direct partnership with a farm located in the Lot-et-Garonne department, as well as Mexican peanuts.

Each batch is limited to just 30 jars to ensure peak freshness and quality control. To ensure the best possible flavor, each nut is carefully roasted at our atelier. Once the roasting process is complete, we immediately grind the nuts and mix them with other premium ingredients, such as spices or Belgian chocolate. This entire process—from roasting to jarring—is done by hand by our team, never outsourced.

We are real people, not a corporation or investment group. That means we make mistakes, are a bit too obsessed with attention to details, and end up working 7 days a week! But we love what we do and enjoy growing and learning together as family of buddies. What we lack in pedigree university qualifications, we make up in passion, creativity, and dedication. We are proud of what we’ve achieved in the past few years and are excited to spread our spreads to new heights!
